The downside of smartphone

You carry your smartphone with you wherever you go. You have it on you at school, work, and while out shopping and running errands. Some people even carry their smartphones into the bathroom (not recommended)! Smartphones harbor viruses and bacteria like E. coli that can make you sick. Use alcohol-based wipes that are safe to use on electronics and wipe down your smartphone at least once daily to remove dirt, dust, and germs. Looking down at your smartphone while texting and browsing strains neck muscles and may lead to knots or spasms. It may even lead to nerve pain that radiates to the back, shoulders, or down the arms. Take regular breaks at least every 20 minutes when you are texting or browsing on your smartphone. Maintain good posture and do not hunch forward. Hold your phone higher when you are using it. Proper smartphone ergonomics helps prevent injuries associated with smartphone use, a common public health consideration. Do regular exercise that strengthens and stretches m

Self centered people

What makes self-centered behaviors so annoying to others is that they indicate a total disregard for the other person's opinion, value, or existence. It appears that it's uncomfortable for self-centered people to be attentive for more than five minutes before they draw attention back to themselves to make their point which they believe to be correct. These behaviors may have their roots in certain behavioral or personality traits that influence how the self-centered person approaches his/her environment and interacts with others. These traits loosely fall under the definition for Narcissistic Personality which may involve a cluster of traits or a clinical diagnosis of a personality disorder. This can produce behaviors that affect the individual's ability to have healthy social interactions and close personal relationships.Narcissistic Personality Disorder is said to possibly be a result of overly indulgent parenting styles. They include but are not limited to the follo

Why students cheat

Everyone has cheated on something at some point in their life, whether it is in a game, on a test, or in a relationship, everyone has done it. Cheating is anything that involves breaking a rule, or getting an unfair advantage. Schools are one of the most popular places people cheat. Many people down play cheating and use excuses like, “He shouldn’t have let me see his paper,” or, “I am just using my resources wisely.” But, what causes people to cheat? Students cheat in school because of laziness, high standards or pressure to do well, and misunderstanding. The first cause as to why students cheat is because they are lazy. It happens all the time, where students go home from school, have a snack, watch television, take a nap, play some video games, and just keep saying that they will do their homework later. The next thing they know it eleven o’clock at night and time to go to bed, but no homework was accomplished. The student keeps pushing back the assignment until the last minute a

Online learning

The current challenges facing traditional colleges and universities — including higher tuition, budget cuts, and course shortages — cause many students to search for alternatives. With nearly three million students currently enrolled in fully online programs and six million taking at least one online course as part of their degree, online education has clearly become one of the most popular higher education alternatives. The continually improving reputation of online learning helped fuel its expansion, as initial skepticism faltered in the face of evidence showing that online learning can be just as effective as face-to-face education. All of this means that students, from working professionals to recent high school graduates, find many reasons to take all or some of their courses online.   Reasons students take online classes You may want to take an online class during the semester to lighten your actual physical class load. You’ll still have to do the work but you’ll do it at yo

The effects on children of a broken marriage

One of the hardest things about separating is worrying about the effect it will have on your children. Relationships and parenting expert Justin Coulson explains the short and long term impacts on the kids. Short-term impact of separation and divorce on children In the short-term, parental separation and divorce leaves children struggling emotionally. Anger and sadness are normal, regardless of your child's age - even if they are adults! Sadness can lead to isolation, loneliness, and social difficulties. Children may also underperform academically as a result of their parent's break-up. Anger can also be seen as children grapple with feelings of abandonment, guilt, worry or blame towards another parent. All of these emotions are normal and should be expected. However, if deep anger or sadness continues beyond two to three months then you should seek counselling for your child. Another important short-term challenge is that children often believe they are responsible for t

Effects of poverty in the society

Issues like hunger, illness and thirst are both causes and effects of poverty. Not having access to water means that you are poor, and being poor also means that you may not be able to afford water or food either. In other words, poor health, lack of water or housing, child abuse or violence fuel a cycle of poverty in which so many end up trapped for life. The causes and effects of poverty are often interrelated in such a way that one problem hardly ever occurs alone. Bad sanitation, for example, makes it easier to spread around old and new diseases, and hunger and lack of water make people more vulnerable to them. Impoverished communities often suffer from discrimination and end up caught in cycles of poverty. Let's find out just what this means concretely.   Crime varies over time and space; it’s high in specific areas and low in others, usually with huge differences in wealth. This has always led experts to study why and what happens in those places where there is a concent

Are we too independent in technology

Technology brought us machines, computers, cars and aeroplanes. It made the world smaller by providing good communication tools, made it possible to explore the solar system and the universe and proved that technology is truly significant in human advancement. There’s no denying technology is great, but are humans becoming too dependent on technology? Advancements in technology have enabled humans to do things that were previously unimaginable and it has certainly made many tasks easier than they were before. How many of us can go for a week without an internet connection or cell phone? Do people take time to memorise phone numbers anymore? Technology has made life so convenient for humans that being without it is a very scary thought.      We are to dependent in technology Technology was made to help us in our daily lives. Things from calculating big numbers, Helping us to get to our destination, And crating things in a more faster pace for production of furniture. This is all goo

Nature of life

Nature , in the broadest sense, is the natural, physical, or material world or universe. "Nature" can refer to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. The study of nature is a large, if not the only, part of science . Although humans are part of nature, human activity is often understood as a separate category from other natural phenomena.     Within the various uses of the word today, "nature" often refers to geology and wildlife . Nature can refer to the general realm of living plants and animals, and in some cases to the processes associated with inanimate objects—the way that particular types of things exist and change of their own accord, such as the weather and geology of the Earth . It is often taken to mean the " natural environment" or wilderness —wild animals, rocks, forest, and in general those things that have not been substantially altered by human intervention, or which persist despite human intervention. For exa

Charisma

The word charisma refers to a rare trait found in certain human personalities usually including extreme charm and a "magnetic" quality of personality or appearance along with innate and powerfully sophisticated personal communicability and persuasiveness; in short, charisma is often used to describe a seemingly uncanny ability to charm or influence people. It refers especially to a quality in certain people who easily draw the attention and admiration (or even hatred if the charisma is negative) of others due to a "magnetic" quality of personality or appearance.   Charisma seems a bit of an enigma. It’s a concept we struggle to define. But why?  We tend not to think about what we mean by charisma. We may think someone has charisma but we do not ask ourselves why that person stands out. It is just a genuinely difficult concept to define. It means different things to different people. When we think of charisma, these kind of words tend to spring to mind; appeal

Physical fitness

Physical fitness is the ability to function effectively throughout your workday, perform your usual other activities and still have enough energy left over to handle any extra stresses or emergencies which may arise.      There are 5 Components of Physical Fitness The 5 components of physical fitness are often used in our school systems, health clubs and fitness centers to gauge how good a shape we are truly in. The 5 components that make up total fitness are: Cardiovascular Endurance Muscular Strength Muscular endurance Flexibility Body Composition Total fitness can be defined by how well the body performs in each one of the components of physical fitness as a whole. It is not enough to be able to bench press your body weight. You also need to determine how well you can handle running a mile etc. A closer look at the individual components: Cardiovascular endurance is the ability of the heart and lungs to work together to provide the needed oxygen and fuel to the body dur

Overcome laziness

Laziness could decrease productivity to the point where it could prevent it or even back track the work that was done. If the laziness is taken in a bad way, it will cause the priorities to be all jumbled. It gets to your mind so that you feel that your pleasure from unproductive things take priority than the things that you must do. For example, if I was feeling lazy with my blog posts, I would just go play some games instead. This situation obviously shows the ugly side of laziness that could set back my growth. But all this is the negative side of laziness. Have you ever given laziness a chance to redeem itself? I feel that one thing about laziness is that people are only introduced to the bad side of it. People are too fixated on the idea that laziness is bad that they never attempt to look on the bright side. So during this time of the post, I would like to present you the time to think of what can be good about laziness. Ready? Set. GO! Alright I hope you had enough time to t
